Hexion Inc. Introduces NextGen Epoxy™ Waterborne System for More Cost Effective, Ultra-Low VOC, High-Performance Coatings
COLUMBUS, Ohio - (April 12, 2016) - Hexion Inc. ("Hexion" or the "Company") is launching its NextGen Epoxy™ Waterborne System at the 2016 American Coatings Show (ACS) in Indianapolis today. This system offers coatings performance comparable to solvent-borne systems while meeting stringent Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) regulations, but without the premium price often associated with high-performance waterborne epoxies.
The key to this new system is a novel, water-soluble amine curing agent called Research Curing Agent RSC-4431. This solvent-free curing agent has a lower equivalent weight which means that formulators can use less to cure the same amount of epoxy resin. This curing agent, when combined with EPI-REZ™ Resin 7520-WD-52, delivers lower VOC, faster dry and good hardness development. This NextGen Epoxy™ WB System can be used to formulate ultra-low VOC coatings (on concrete at less than 50 g/L VOC content, and on metal at less than 100 g/L VOC content).
"We are excited at the prospect of our NextGen Epoxy system making waterborne, ultra-low VOC coatings more accessible to a wider range of coatings customers because of its unique balance of performance and price," said Dan Weinmann, Hexion's Segment Leader for Coatings & Civil Engineering. Recommended applications for this new waterborne system include concrete coatings for floors and walls; industrial maintenance coatings for metal; agricultural & construction equipment coatings; railway coatings; and coatings for Automotive parts and accessories.
In addition to lower VOC, the NextGen Epoxy Waterborne System offers improved product stability, superior freeze-thaw stability and an extended working pot life of 5 to 6 hours with superior gloss. Visitors to ACS 2016 in Indianapolis, April 12-14, are invited to Booth 2348 to learn more about all of Hexion's latest developments.
